PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

Greetings to you all!

What a great year we have had! Lots of inquiring, action, thinking, problem solving and learning.

As a staff, we would like to thank you, our community for your support which has happened for many ways over the years – from contributing to the governance of the school, to going on school trips, to selling cakes. Every contribution is valued and greatly appreciated – thank you!

Students met their new classmates and teachers yesterday. Our class line up is as follows:

You will note that some students have two teachers. Over the year, we have reviewed our Learning Support Class (LSC) an Individual Needs (IN) provision and have put in place a model that we believe will strengthen and enhance our current model. Hence, some classes will have two teachers, one a ‘mainstream’ teacher and one ‘LSC’ teacher. Other classes will have two Educational Assistants (E.A.s) – one a ‘mainstream’ EA and one ‘LSC’ EA.

Farewell to our Year 6 students, most of whom have been with us since Year 1. Bradbury School is proud of you and we wish you the very best as you embark on the adventure of secondary school!

Farewell also to the Bradbury families who are leaving us. Thank you for being a part of our community and on behalf of us all, we wish you well.

Over the summer, our Parent Handbook will be updated. This will be ready with the 2016/2017 updates for mid August. It has lots of practical information for you, so do have a look.

My best to you all for a wonderful, refreshing and relaxing summer. See you on the 15 August 2016.

Thank you.

Sandra Webster
Principal

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

The After School Activities Program has concluded for this term. On behalf of all the pupils who took part, I would like to thank the staff and parents who helped run the activities, if it wasn’t for them giving up their time, the after school activities wouldn’t exist.

These additional sessions support the PE programme and allow the children to experience a variety of sports at which we compete against other schools, mainly at Year 5 and Year 6. The pupils gain a lot from having specific skills coaching and demonstrate a definite improvement in ability and confidence due to their exposure.

Next year, the After School programme will start in Week 3 of Term 1 (29th August) but the sign up for the activities will open when we return, in Week 1. There will be an email to let you know so please try and avoid messaging or email the school as we will send out a reminder to all.

Thank you again for your support throughout the year and I look forward to another successful year of Bradbury sports and activities in 2016/17.

REMINDER: P.T.A. SHOP OPENING HOURS

For Beginning of the School Year 2016 – 2017

For the convenience of parents, we have made special arrangements for the shop opening hours at the beginning of the new school year. We encourage the parents to purchase the uniforms and stationery early as it will be very crowded in the shop at the beginning of the new term. The PTA shop will be closed during summer holiday.

Open Date: August: 9, 10, 11, 12 (open from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Our shop will open regularly Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 15 August 2016 onwards.

Lin Gong – PTA Administrator

UNIFORM NOTE

We relaxed our requirement around white only P.E. shoes over the year. This has unfortunately resulted in a serious decline in uniform standards. Next year, the requirement will be mainly white with a small number of coloured inserts acceptable. All white will default to being the preference.

Thank you.

Sandra Webster – Principal

SHOES FOR KENYA

Thank you for the overwhelming support in sending in your shoes to be sent to Kenya over recent years. These collections have now ended. For future donations of adult running shoes only, these can be dropped to Escapade Sports in Causeway Bay. For those families living in Discovery Bay, adult running shoes can be dropped to Action X store.

Thanks again.

KADOORIE FARM VISIT

Year 3 recently visited Kadoorie farm to explore natural resources in Hong Kong. The children delved into the choices we can make to best use these resources. The farm has a focus on sustainable living, educating visitors on how our choices impact the world and how we can adjust our choices for the betterment of the earth. Once again, it was an extremely positive learning experience that all of the students (and adults) thoroughly enjoyed.

Ian Casey – Year 3 Teacher/ Head of Science & Technology

SCIENCE CLUB VISITS SOUTH ISLAND SCHOOL

As part of our ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit of inquiry, the Year 3 students have been exploring renewable and non-renewable resources. They were invited to visit South Island School to take part in a valuable scientific learning experience, where they explored different energy types.

P.T.A. NEWS

I cannot believe how fast this school year has flown by.

I would like, on behalf of the PTA to thank each of you for your support, participation and encouragement over the year. It would be impossible to hold any events such as the Night Market or the School Disco without your help. Whether you have volunteered, baked cakes or donated time or money, every bit helps and we appreciate it all!

So far this year we have raised over $300,000, which is an amazing achievement. The PTA has made donations to the school to support a wide variety of programs including specialist sports teachers, artist in residence, the learning support centre and the Year 6 leaving celebration. Over the summer we are also installing new water fountains and funding a new and improved spiderweb climbing structure!

We continue to persue the completion of our lower ground playground or else remuneration that will aloow us to remedy the unsatisfactory work.

I want to say a special thank you to the PTA committee members who have all worked so hard to make 2015/16 such a successful year. Sadly we have to say goodbye to four of our committee members: Niamh Armitage, Cassie Jullienne, Venus Lee and Virginia Wong. Thank you for your commitment and hard work over the many years that you have been on the committee. You will all be greatly missed!!

I hope that you all have a wonderful summer and the PTA look forward to working with you next year!

See you in August!

Julia Dunn – PTA Chairperson
