Bradbury Newsletter 18th September 2015
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Greetings to you all!
Tonight, we have our annual ‘Welcome back to School’ family picnic.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO THE BRADBURY SCHOOL PICNIC
Date: Friday, 18 September 2015 Time: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Venue: Tarmac (asphalt) playground
Bring a picnic and a rug, mix and mingle, meet other Bradbury School parents, listen to live music
This is an informal opportunity for you to come along to school with a rug and a picnic, to enjoy mixing and mingling with the parents. These have always been highly attended and very enjoyable. Just a couple of important notes:
· Parents must accompany children, not helpers only.
· Staff are attending in a social capacity only, so parents are responsible for taking care of their children.
I look forward to welcoming you all. If the weather is not favourable, a decision to cancel will be made at 3 p.m. and posted on the website.
Yours sincerely,
Sandra Webster
Principal
YEAR 6 CAKE SALE
The Year 6 cake sale will be held on Tuesday 22 September 2015. We would be grateful if each year 6 Student could contribute one dozen (only) individual sized cakes for this event. Please have your child deliver the cakes to the Lobby on Tuesday morning. If you would like your container returned, please clearly label both the top and bottom with your child’s name and class. Please remember no nuts or nut products and brownies and healthier cake are more welcomed.
Volunteers – we require 9 helpers on the day between 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Please email PTA at pta@bradbury.edu.hk or call 2893 2256 if you can help.
All years – We have increased the price this year for the first time in more than 10 years. So if you would like your child/children to buy a cake, please provide them with $10 per cake and they will have an opportunity to buy cakes at morning break on Tuesday.
Many thanks.

Welcoming Mother Tongue Language Guest Readers
We really enjoyed welcoming parent and staff guest readers last year to the Bradbury Library. Parents and staff members shared a book in their Mother Tongue. We will continue welcoming parents and staff to visit the library on Wednesdays during Y1-3 and Y4-6 lunch times to read books aloud in their mother-tongue.
Please email to book a time and indicate your interest: librarian@mybradburyschool.com Remember that you are welcome to bring your own books to share or use library mother tongue language books as available.
Thank you!

P.S.E. NEWS
Growth MIndset –Basic facts about the brain
- To function well the brain needs sleep, certain foods within a functioning and fit body
- Sleep is crucial to learning and health
- While we sleep the heart rate drops, muscles relax and breathing slows
- During sleep the body’s energy is restored, it physically repairs itself and the brain processes and commits to memory what has been learnt and experienced during the day
- The senses are different “pathways” to the brain: using more than one sense to learn about something results in more of the brain being used which helps learning and memory
- Using different ways of learning helps focus attention and increases learning, active learning approaches are best

PARKING
Parking is always an issue at Bradbury. However, some drivers are making it even more difficult by double parking and holding up traffic or by narrowing the road so much that traffic builds up as it slows down to pass. In the mornings, all buses stop outside the gate and the students alight onto the pavement. However, again, inconsiderate parking means that our buses cannot pull into the curb and the students have to alight on the road. Requests to move are ignored. Please talk to your driver about this. You may find it helpful to know which cars this refers to, so as from next week, we will note license plates in the newsletter so that you can talk to your driver if it is your car.
