BRADBURY NEWSLETTER – 15 NOV 2019

致白普理學

Greetings to the Bradbury School Community

I would like to take the time to say thank you for your continued support in what has been a difficult week. Most staff have been able to come in to school, and all have ensured that home learning has occurred for our students.

At this stage, I have no information on the status of school next week. Please continue to check your emails- I will update you as soon as I know anything.

A couple of matters:

  • The Year 5 & 6 sports day next week (Tuesday 19th) is postponed. New date to be advised.
  • The school production is also postponed. The new tentative date is Thursday 13th February.

I will wait to see how next week unfolds before making a decision about after school activities.

On a personal note, thank you for your lovely messages in regards to the twin’s arrival. All went well, Millie and Niall are gorgeous and I am a very proud Nana!

Stay safe and take care.

Best,

Sandra Webster
Principal

Box of Hope

By Steve Fennelly, Vice Principal

Last Day for Collections:  19 Nov 2019

Six years ago, Bradbury began supporting the ‘Box of Hope’ charity. We will be participating again this year and the appeal will be organised mostly by the student councillors.

Box of Hope is an annual charity project aimed at providing useful/educational gifts to underprivileged children in Hong Kong & Asia, donated by Hong Kong school children and local organisations.

Your child’s role is to fill old shoe boxes with NEW, interesting and EDUCATIONAL gifts at home and drop them off at a collection point. Bradbury School is a collection point. The boxes are then collected and delivered directly to the children in need. Some of these children have never received a gift. Each child has been given a set of stickers that they will need to stick on their box of hope.

I received information about this year’s appeal late last week, and although your child should bring home an informative sticker to be stuck on the decorated Box of Hope shoe box next week, I wanted to flag this now, just in case you are looking for an activity for the last weekend of the break!

As the collection week is in mid November, please encourage your children to start making up their boxes over the next week or so. We will start collecting them up from next Monday.

You can find out more information at http://boxofhope.org/home/main/en/

RSE Curriculum

By Sandra Webster, Principal

Further to the RSE (Relationships, Sexuality Education) survey last year, where we gathered responses to gain an understanding around comfort levels if RSE outcomes are taught to your child, we would now like to share the updated  RSE Curriculum Document (click to access) with you. Your child’s class teacher will let you know when they will be teaching these outcomes at each year level. We will also hold some workshops later in the year to provide you with further support if you require it. I have included a list of resources that we as a school use and you may be interested in purchasing to help support your child’s learning at home. You can also borrow these books from the library.  Please contact your class teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

The Year 2 students have been learning about the close connection an animal or plant has to its own habitat. They have also considered whether certain actions by humans are helpful or harmful to those habitats. They then shared their learning on a ‘Habitat Walk’ between classes.
